First-Time Super Plunger
What prompted you to get involved in the Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island (SORI) this year?
I was inspired to become a Super Plunger after following the team for several years, especially when my friend Erica Vieira – a retired sergeant from the URI Police Department – was part of it. Before joining the team, I participated in the Torch Run Plunge with the URI P.D., raising funds for Special Olympics Rhode Island for years. It’s incredible to see so many people come together for this cause, united in support of these amazing athletes.
What do you hope to achieve through your participation in the 2025 Super Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island?
I hope to raise awareness and funds to champion athletes who embody resilience, determination, and inclusivity. Plus, I love a challenge – and repeatedly diving into ice-cold waters in March is no easy feat! But my ultimate motivation is always the athletes!
Given that you’ll be plunging into icy waters every hour for 24 hours straight, are you taking any steps to prepare for this initiative?
I’ve been exploring the Wim Hof method, focusing on deep breathing and the power of mind over matter. I believe this mental preparation, combined with the incredible support of my fellow teammates, will help me push through the cold and stay motivated throughout the 24 hours.
What message would you like to share with members of the public about your commitment to the Super Plunge and the athletes of Special Olympics Rhode Island?
It’s so important to give back to the community whether through volunteering, raising funds, or spreading awareness for local organizations such as Special Olympics Rhode Island. If you’d like to support this incredible initiative, you can help by spreading the word about it on social media or making a donation to the Super Plunge Team – every bit makes a difference for these amazing athletes.
Aside from the Super Plunge, are you involved with Special Olympics Rhode Island in any other way?
Before joining the Super Plunge Team, I participated in the Torch Run Plunge to help raise funds for Special Olympics Rhode Island athletes. I’ve also supported Super Plungers by donating Reiki services for various fundraisers, as I’m a Reiki practitioner for both people and pets. Looking ahead, I’d love to get more directly involved with the athletes and the sports they’re so passionate about.
Anything else you’d like to add about the Super Plunge or Special Olympics Rhode Island?
I’m excited to be part of an amazing team, coming together to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Rhode Island. It’s incredible to see the positive impact this effort has on the athletes and the community.
