Athlete Spotlight

Meet Veronica Schenck!

Veronica Schenck

What team do you participate on?
I have participated on the Trudeau Tigers team since the late 1990s. I have enjoyed being a teammate to my friends.

What sports do you compete in?
Track & Field, and Unified Volleyball. I really like these sports – they are fun.

Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Coventry High School in 1997.

Do you have a job? If so, tell us about it.
I don’t currently have a job, but someday, I would like to work at a school or daycare to help the kids.

Why did you choose to participate in the Athlete Leadership University (ALU)?
I wanted to learn a lot. And I wanted to be a good spokesperson. I am not shy.

What have you accomplished through your involvement with ALU?
I graduated with all my friends in the same class and I learned skills to be a good spokesperson for Special Olympics Rhode Island. I have already served as a spokesperson for SORI. I have been an Athlete Representative for Donut Week where I greeted customers and told them about my involvement in SORI. I also did the welcome speech on behalf of athletes at last year’s Southern Area Games.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy walking on the treadmill, riding the bike, and getting exercise.

Is there anything else about yourself that you would like to share?
Special Olympics has changed my life by introducing me to friends and coaches and giving me an opportunity to sleep at the dorms at URI during Summer Games. I love being a part of Special Olympics.
