Athlete Spotlight

Meet Jeff Pete Jr.

Jeff Pete Jr.

What team do you participate on?
I participate on the Woonsocket Wolverines team.

What sports do you compete in?
I compete in softball, soccer, flag football, and basketball. My favorite sport is basketball because it gives me the opportunity to be more of a coach on the floor and help my teammates.

Where did you go to school?
I attended Mt. Pleasant High School.

Do you have a job? If so, tell us about it.
I have worked for The Capital Grille for the past 9 years. I started as a dishwasher and now I receive all the meat for the restaurant. It feels good that my boss had the faith in me to move me up to the receiver position.

Why did you choose to participate in the Athlete Leadership University (ALU)?
I chose to participate to help me become a better teammate for my team and a good role model for my daughter and friends.

What do you hope to accomplish in your involvement with this program?
I hope to become a better role model and teammate and to manage my time and behavior better. I also hope to become a better public speaker. The skills I have learned through ALU have helped me to manage my emotions on and off the courts and fields, make healthier choices, and to not be so shy and nervous. I have built confidence back.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my 12-year-old daughter, Zoey, and family. When I spend time with Zoey, we play video games, watch TV, play Uno, and go shopping and out to dinner with family. I also enjoy spending time with my friends. We play basketball, go bowling, and we have been to college basketball games, concerts, and amusement parks. Other things I enjoy are movies, TV shows, and hanging out with my housemates.

Is there anything else about yourself that you would like to share?
I like to make people smile and laugh, and I can be silly at times. Sometimes I get frustrated and upset. I am working on controlling my emotions better. Professionally, I would like to take food safety classes to advance my skills in the kitchen. I would like to own and operate my own food truck services with my father.
