Athlete Spotlight

Meet Heather Wyrostek!

Heather Wyrostek

What team do you participate on?
I have competed on the Bristol County Baysiders team for 25 years. Being a member of the team has allowed me to participate in sports and make new friends.

What sports do you compete in?
I compete in bocce, swimming, and Unified bowling. My favorite of these sports is bocce because it’s so much fun.

Where did you go to school?
I attended South Coast Educational Collaborative.

Do you have a job? If so, tell us about it.
I have worked at Starbucks in Seekonk for 16 years. I enjoy interacting with customers, working with people, and stocking coffee supplies.

Why did you choose to participate in the Athlete Leadership University (ALU)?
I wanted to find another way to participate in Special Olympics. I knew that if I took classes through Athlete Leadership University, I could help other athletes by passing on what I learned.

What do you hope to accomplish through your involvement with this program?
I want to be more of a leader. Now that I’ve graduated from ALU, I have learned how to speak up to share opinions and concerns.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy scrapbooking, belly dancing, Special Olympics, shopping, going out to eat, and hanging out with friends and family. One of my favorite things to shop for is pocketbooks, and one of my favorite things to do with my friends is go out to eat. My favorite pastime with my family is enjoying family dinners together. I also love when we go on vacation together.

Is there anything else about yourself that you would like to share?
I love to cook and bake. Also, my favorite quote is, “Be Cool. Be Happy.”
