Ongoing Volunteer

Become an Ongoing Volunteer (Class A):

Volunteers play a critical role with Special Olympics Rhode Island. Individuals who participate in ongoing volunteer positions help to build a foundation for acceptance, respect, and inclusion for all. Roles range from long-term coaching, Unified Sports partners, organizing sport competitions and fundraising events.  There are a number of opportunities for you to help with a local team or statewide programming.

Current Volunteer Needs

Unified Basketball

Unified partners are needed to play on teams alongside SORI athletes of all ability levels during the six-week Unified Basketball season.  Games are played at gyms in Cranston, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and Seekonk. Time commitment is 2 hours/week.  Partners must be able to commit to attending 75% of the scheduled games. Knowledge of basketball is preferred. Must be 16 or older.

Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding

Volunteers are needed to help train athletes of all ability levels in downhill skiing and snowboarding at Yawgoo Valley Ski Area in Exeter.  Practices are held on Tuesday nights from 6-7:30pm in January and February.  Volunteers must be knowledgeable of the sport and provide their own equipment.  Must be 16 or older.
