2021 Virtual Summer Games

This year, Special Olympics Rhode Island is proud to once again bring you the 2021 Virtual Summer Games on June 4th and June 5th! The 2021 Virtual Summer Games will focus on the sports opportunities offered during the Spring Season. The Spring Season gave our athletes the opportunity to safely return to play following specific guidelines from SOI, CDC and the RI Dept. of Health. The variety of safe outdoor sports provided an incredible opportunity to bring together not only our athletes, but family members, coaches and volunteers. (Please remember that the Live Streaming of the events on Friday night and Saturday morning will only be available for the hours indicated on the schedule below.)

FRIDAY’S EVENTS:
Friday, June 4th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm: Opening Ceremony will include pieces that you would traditionally see during an SORI Opening Ceremony, such as the Parade of Athletes, Guest Speakers, Musical Entertainment, Torch Run and much more! Click here to watch the Opening Ceremony beginning at 7:00pm. (Note this link will only be available beginning at 7pm on Friday morning).

Friday June 4th from 8:30pm – 9:30pm: Athlete Dance “Hooray for Hollywood”
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THE DANCE (Preregistration is required. When you register, you will provide your name and an email address. Once your registration is confirm , you will received an email with the Zoom code and password to log into the dance on June 4th).

SATURDAY’S EVENTS:
Saturday, June 5th beginning at 10:00am: Live Competition from Cycling Venue; Spring Sports Team Videos, Tribute to Casie Rhodes, Statewide Spring Sports Videos, Unified Champion Schools Highlight Video and a replay of the 2020 Virtual Summer Games Competition Videos. Recognition for 2021 SORI Virtual Summer Games

We are once again coming together virtually for our Summer Games in 2021. This year, the theme of the Games revolves around inclusion, health, fitness, coming together, and unity. Recognition and awards for our Virtual Games will be based on your attendance at both in-person practices with your team and virtual events (i.e. fitness with Steph, etc.) this Spring.

Bronze Level Recognition: Attend at least 25% of practices

Silver Level Recognition: Attend at least 50% of practices

Gold Level Recognition: Attend at least 80% of practices

**All participants in this year’s Virtual Games will receive a virtual certificate and commemorative t-shirt**

SPIRIT WEEK

Spirit Week: We are going to have a Spirit Week leading up to the Virtual State Summer Games beginning on Saturday, May 29th and ending on Saturday, June 5th! Enjoy each day with different themes and be sure to post your pictures on your Facebook and/or Instagram page for each day. When you share your photos, use the hashtag: #SORISpiritWeek, so we can follow your posts on social media. If you would like to share your pictures with us for a “Virtual Games Spirit Week” album on the SORI Facebook page, please email them to Mary-Ellen at maryellen@specialolympicsri.org
