The Elwood Johnson Outstanding Service award recognizes a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run community that represents the best of LETR’s commitment to philanthropy and community impact. The award was established and named in honor of longtime law enforcement member and Special Olympics Rhode Island supporter, Elwood Johnson Jr., in 2023. Each Rhode Island law enforcement department or agency nominates one member of their department or agency who has had significant positive impact on the mission of Special Olympics Rhode Island.
Nominees represent the best of LETR’s commitment “to provide opportunities for athletes to empower and transform themselves, their communities, and the world.” All nominees are selected as their department or agency’s Outstanding Service Award recipient and become eligible to win the state award.
