Meet Daniel Comella!

What team do you participate on?
East Greenwich Avengers

What sports do you compete in?
Basketball, Volleyball, Bocce, Regional and State Games

Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, Class of 2024. I also attended a transition program in Warwick five days a week.

Do you have a job? If so, tell us about it.
In my transition program, I gain experience at Dave’s Marketplace, a daycare, and helping in the community. I have also worked at my cousin’s restaurant when she needs extra help.

Why did you choose to participate in the Athlete Leadership University (ALU)?
For the past couple years, I have been telling my parents that I want to be a leader and help other athletes. I already help athletes on the court and in the field, even if they are not on my team. I think I have a good understanding of when to help and when not to help. Either way I always do my best to not only be a good athlete but a good representative of everything Special Olympics stands for.

What have you accomplished through your involvement with ALU?
I want to make meaningful connections with people in my community and play a meaningful role in the Special Olympics organization. I love being an athlete and I think I will also love to be a leader so I can help other people like so many have helped me over the years. I also believe in everything that Special Olympics stands for and want to do my part to give back to the Special Olympics organization as well.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I am a member of the East Greenwich Karate demo team and dedicate a lot of my time practicing and preparing for the events we have. It is a fun opportunity to work as a member of a team while listening to music and performing. I really enjoy performing in front of people and speaking in front of people, so I think that’s probably the most fun thing that I do. I also enjoy WWE Wrestling shows and enjoy putting together my own shows, which requires a lot of planning and organizing.

Is there anything else about yourself that you would like to share?
Special Olympics has allowed me to continue my athletic career after high school which is something I was concerned about because I loved playing sports and I love being on a team. Special Olympics gives me a voice and an opportunity to grow and learn and be the best person I can be. And make my parents, my sister & my Nana proud!
